ABILENE, Texas -

Plans were unveiled Thursday for a new $3-million expansion and renovation to the Abilene Zoo's giraffe exhibit.

The new Giraffe Safari exhibit, as it's being called, will double the size of the current facility.

It will also allow the zoo to begin a breeding program by adding a bull giraffe.

The zoo will be tearing down the current bridge to add new viewing areas and a covered feeding deck.  The current giraffe exhibit is 50 years old.

The new exhibit should be complete by the spring of 2015.
