1947: Actor Richard Dreyfuss, best known for his roles in movies such as "American Graffiti," "Jaws," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," "The Goodbye Girl" and "Mr. Holland's Opus," is born in Brooklyn, New York. Dreyfuss earned an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1977 for "The Goodbye Girl" and was nominated again in 1995 for "Mr. Holland's Opus."
