ACU Basketball: Award-Winning Christmas Slam Scheduled For Dec. 4 Doubleheader Vs. Commerce
Abilene Christian University presents its second-annual Christmas Slam Tuesday night, Dec. 4 at Moody Coliseum. Festivities begin prior to the start of the ACU women's basketball game vs. Texas A&M-Commerce at 5:30 p.m. and will continue through the men's game, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Both ends of the doubleheader will be broadcast locally by Grant Boone on 1280-AM KSLI and via the ACU Sports page at SkyboxLive.com.
Tickets start at $10 for adults and $5 for children 18 and under, with discounts being provided to church groups, military personnel, AYBA players and their families, as well as faculty and staff representing ACU and the Abilene Independent School District.
Fans who bring unwrapped toys and children's undergarments for Arms of Hope or canned food for the KRBC Share Your Christmas Food Drive will also receive $5 tickets.
“The Christmas Slam is becoming a big deal for ACU and we really want to surpass last year's attendance figure by reaching out to the dorms, student clubs, and our neighbors in the surrounding communities – we want them to know this event is for everyone,” said Dylan Benac, Vice President for ACU's Student Association. “We want them to see what ACU sports are really about and how much fun there is to have at these games. Activities and entertainment will be going on all night, so we're encouraging fans to get there in time for the women's game and then stay through the men's.”
Team BIG AIR – an acrobatic slam-dunk basketball show that has been entertaining a worldwide fan base for more than a decade – will be highlighting this year's event during halftime of the men's game. Additional treats include photos with Santa Claus, free food and drinks provided by ACU's student clubs and organizations, free pizza to the first 200 students in attendance, and a Christmas blessing from ACU President Dr. Phil Schubert.
Gift cards to Tin Cup and Shady Oaks golf courses, Primetime Family Entertainment Center, Xtreme Car Wash, Cotton Patch and Buffalo Wild Wings also will be given away.
The ACU men's game will once again start with a Silent Night promotion in which the student body must remain completely silent until Wildcats scores their tenth point.
Last year's inaugural Christmas Slam was met with great enthusiasm by the student population and easily attracted ACU's largest crowd of the season by over 1,000 spectators. The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) also honored event organizers for their role, presenting them with a Group III bronze medal in the categories of Single-Day Attendance Promotion and Single Newspaper Display Ad.
