Veteran center Nick Hardwick will put off retirement and return to the San Diego Chargers for an 11th season in 2014.

Hardwick had considered walking away from the game after suffering a concussion in San Diego's AFC playoff win over the Cincinnati Bengals in January, but he decided to finish his three-year contract.

"I told them (Chargers) I expect to play next season," Hardwick told U-T San Diego. "I'm excited about it."

The 32-year-old Hardwick battled head and neck injuries last season.

"I wanted to take a month off where I didn't have to think about football," he said. "I just wanted to be honest with where my body is, where my brain is, where we're at and where we want to go. Just give an honest assessment. My body feels great. My brain feels great. I do think there's better football ahead of me."

Hardwick started all 16 regular-season games each of the past four years for the Chargers.
