Hardin-Simmons’ men’s golf team is in the 12th place after the first round, but just nine strokes out of the lead in a tightly bunched Mississippi College Spring Invitational which is being played at the Black Bear Golf Club in Delhi, La.
Windy and cool conditions led to some high scores in the first round. Only four players in the field broke 80 and McMUrry and UT-Dallas are tied with a 328 team score. Texas Lutheran, Arkansas-Monticello and Mary Hardin-Baylor are all tied at 329 just one shot back and Texas-Tyler and Millsaps shot 331.
Brandon Heard led the Cowboys with an 80 and is tied for fifth place overall. Sean Aleman and Ryan Hughes each shot 85 and Tyler Mileger fired an 87. Mike Hursh shot a 95.
Cameron Thomas of Delta State and Brady Purdom of Mary Hardin-Baylor shot 76 to take the individual lead.
The teams will conclude the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday.
