Hardin-Simmons’ men’s golf team took 20 shots off of its score from round one to round two and moved up from 12th to ninth place at the Mississippi College Spring Invitational at Black Bear Golf Club in Delhi, La.
Senior Tyler Mileger shot a 74, which tied for the second-best individual round of the day in the field. He and Ryan Hughes finished with two round totals of 161. Mileger shot 87-74 and Hughes 85-76. Brandon Heard shot an 80-85-165 and Sean Aleman had rounds of 85 and 82 for a 167. Mike Hursh was the Cowboys’ non-counting score with rounds of 95 and 99.
HSU shot team rounds of 337 and 317. The 317 was the sixth-best round of the day. HSU finished the tournament with a 654 total.
McMurry fired a 307 to win the team title by three strokes over Texas-Tyler with a 328-307-635. UTT shot 638, Mary Hardin-Baylor was third with a 640, Millsaps College was fourth with a 643 and Delta State rounded out the top five with a 645.
Cameron Thomas of Delta State had round of 76 and 77 for a 153 total to defeat UMHB’s Brady Purdom by one stroke.
HSU will next be in action next week in Dataw Island, South Carolina, as part of the Taylormade Invitational as part of a spring break trip.
