The San Francisco Giants recalled first baseman Brandon Belt from Triple-A Fresno on Thursday as they look to deal with the potential long-term loss of star catcher Buster Posey.

Belt batted .337 with four homers and 21 RBIs in 132 at-bats with Fresno after being demoted by the Giants. The 23-year-old phenom struggled in his first taste of major-league action, batting .192 with a homer and four runs driven in over 52 at-bats.

Belt will be relied upon to help make up for the loss of Posey, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list after suffering a broken bone in his leg. Posey may also have ligament damage and is expected to be out for a while.

The Giants made a flurry of other roster moves Thursday. Mike Fontenot joined Posey on the 15-day DL with a strained left groin. The Giants also placed outfielder Darren Ford on the 15-day DL with a left ankle sprain. His DL stint was made retroactive to May 23.

San Francisco purchased the contracts of catcher Chris Stewart from Fresno and shortstop Brandon Crawford from High-A San Jose while designating pitcher Henry Sosa and shortstop Ryan Rohlinger for assignment.
