Hardin-Simmons Head Athletic Trainer D.J. Gililland and former Head Athletic Trainer David Stuckey were both honored with awards at the 2012 Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association (SWATA) annual meeting that was held in Addison.
Gililland was given the Bobby Gun Unsung Hero Watch Award which is presented to a member of District 6 who has served the Association in a dedicated professional manner. Gililland’s time and talents have been for the betterment of the Association and the advancement of the profession. He is currently the webmaster for the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association and has served on both national and district committees in the past.
Stuckey was given the National Athletic Trainer Service Award. It was actually presented at the NATA conference in St. Louis, but he was also honored at the SWATA meeting. It is given annually to a NATA member for their contributions to the athletic training profession as a volunteer at the local, state, and district levels. ATSA recipients have been involved in professional associations, community organizations, grassroots public relations efforts and service as a volunteer athletic trainer.
SWATA is district VI of the National Athletic Trainers Association and includes members from Texas and Arkansas.
