Hardin-Simmons’ track teams opened its 2013 indoor season with a solid day at the Texas Tech Open on Saturday in Lubbock.
Sophomore hurdler Derek Footer had the best performance for the Cowboys as he qualified for the 55-hurdles finals and set a school record with a time of 7.89. He placed seventh in the finals.
Bradley Hutchinson ran a 6.73 in the 55 and was 12th with a 23.21 in the 200. Daniel Kaplinski ran a 1:21 in the 600. Chad Caton placed 13th with a 9:26 in the 3000 meters.
Paul Demings ran a 2:44 and Tyson Denton ran a 2:59 in the 1000 meters. Dustin Baker threw the shot 42-3 ½ and 47-10 in the weight throw to place seventh. Cody Parker was 10th in the weight throw with a 41-10.
Newcomer Shanice Wright had a solid day in the sprints for the Cowgirls. She ran a 7.55 in the 55 and ran a 27.66 in the 200.
Shannon Shipp was ninth in the shot put with a 28-5 and Elissa Paniagua was 10th with a 27 -11 ½. Paniagua was sixth in the weight throw with a 37 -9 1/2. Shipps was seventh with a 35-1.
Both teams will run at Texas Tech again next weekend.
