Hardin-Simmons’ men’s golf team moved up one place to a tie for ninth in the Al Jones Memorial Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the Cascaded Golf Club in Tyler.
The Cowboys rebounded from a shaky 321 in the first round to shoot 310 on Tuesday. Tyler Mileger again paced the Cowboys with a 77-75-152 total to place 13th individually. Sean Aleman shot 80-77-157. Ryan Hughes shot 78-83-161 and his 83 was the Cowboys discard score on Tuesday.
Brandon Heard peeled eight strokes off his first round total as she shot 86-78-164. Anthony Chiarelli took seven shots from round one to round two with an 87-80-167.
Texas-Tyler ran away with its home tournament shooting rounds of 292 and 293 for a 585 total, 18 shots better than Mary Hardin-Baylor. HSU shot 321-310-631.
Robby Schimmels of Mary Hardin-Baylor shot a two-under par 70 to force a playoff with John Dukes of UTT and won the playoff to take the medalist title.
HSU will next be in action on Oct. 22 at the Alamo City Classic in San Antonio.
