McM cross country finishes season at NCCAA Championships
The McMurry University cross country program capped off its' 2012 season as the men's and women's teams competed at the NCCAA National Championships held at Cedarville University.
The men's team cracked the top ten in the 40th annual NCCAA championship event, finishing with 303 total points. Finishing 10th in a field of 31 teams, the men were paced by Michael Dowd who came in 33rd with a personal record of 26:41.20.
Bo Porter finished in 47th with a time of 27:00.25. Other notable finishes included Shane Floyd (49th/27:06.05), Trent Faulk (96th/28:07.54), and Hector Flores (103rd/28:17.14) in the 220-athlete race.
The women finished the 38th-annual NCCAA women's race in 17th with a total of 498 points. Lauren Peery was the first War Hawk across the finish line, coming in 57th with a time of 19:57.59.
CeCe Ramirez came in 87th with a 20:32.68 and Alyssa Fields finished in the top-100 at 92nd with a time of 20:44.21. Other finishers included Mary Affleck (123rd/21:24.55) and Brittney McGurie (152nd/22:06.06) out of 204 contestants.
“Our ladies struggled today, but the guys nailed it,” said head coach David Chandler. “The course was a lot tougher than we thought it would be.”
The overall men's team winner was Oklahoma Christian with 41 points while the individual winner was Andrew Trusty of Malone, who came in with a time of 25:00.16.
On the women's side, Azusa Pacific came away with the overall team victory (80 points), while the individual title was taken by Jennifer Mallen of Cal. Baptist, who finished the course with a time of 17:43.20.
