Former NCAA men’s basketball champion A.J. Bramlett is headed to Abilene Saturday and Sunday to help run a two-day event at Cooper High School. The Run The Walk Sports Basketball Camp Tour will be making a stop this weekend featuring Bramlett along with two former McMurry basketball coaches as the group conducts a two-session camp for boys and girls ages 7-18.
The two-day skills development event begins each day at 12:30 p.m. and runs until 4 p.m. each day. Bramlett played alongside former Dallas Mavericks star Jason Terry at the University of Arizona when the Wildcats took the NCAA championship in 1997. Bramlett went on to a brief NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers and had several years of pro experience in Europe following his time with the Cavs.
Along with Bramlett will be former McMurry men’s basketball assistant coaches Gonzalo “G” Garza and Elijah Bryant. Garza is the head boys basketball coach at St. Joe’s Academy in Brownsville while Bryant founded Run The Walk Sports along with Bramlett. Bryant was also a two-time all-American Southwest Conference performer with McMurry’s basketball team from 2004-2006.
Campers are encouraged to register online at no extra cost at http://runthewalk.com. The cost for the two-day camp is $75. Campers will work on shooting techniques, strength & conditioning and overall skills development. Campers will also receive a Run The Walk T-Shirt included in admission price.
