Preview: Santa Clara at Saint Mary's

Santa Clara will travel to No. 23 Saint Mary's on Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Gaels locked up second place in the West Coast Conference when No. 2 Gonzaga held on to beat BYU on Thursday. Santa Clara can still finish third with a victory against Saint Mary's and a loss by BYU on Saturday at Loyola Marymount, though either result would be a major upset.Saint Mary's leading scorer Matthew Dellavedova might have something to prove after matching his season-low with four points and committing six turnovers when these teams met Feb. 7 at Santa Clara. For the only time in his four-year career, Dellavedova did not make a field goal during a game. Foster scored 17 points, just below his season average of 17.9, and distributed eight assists in the 79-56 victory. Trasolini bid farewell to Leavey Center by scoring 26 points for his second-highest scoring game this season. Trasolini, a 6-9 forward, has shot at least 50 percent from the floor in 11 consecutive games. The other player the Gaels need to account for is junior guard Evan Roquemore, who scored 18 points in the previous meeting against Saint Mary's.ABOUT SAINT MARY'S (25-5, 13-2): The Gaels are hardly a one-man show. Stephen Holt, a 6-4 junior guard, is averaging 11.8 points and 5.3 rebounds, though his shooting percentage has dipped from 49.7 last season to 41.6. Beau Levesque, a 6-6 junior forward, averages 10.6 points. He scored a career-high 24 when these teams met last month. He is shooting 53.2 percent from the floor, including 48.1 from 3-point range. Saint Mary's also has a pair of 6-9 forwards in Brad Waldow and Mitchell Young, who each average a team-high 5.7 rebounds.TIP-INS1.
