Kansas State 48, Louisiana-Lafayette 27: Tramaine Thompson returned a kickoff for a touchdown and set up another with a long punt return to help the Wildcats rebound from a stunning opening loss with a victory over the visiting Ragin' Cajuns.
John Hubert rushed for two touchdowns, and quarterbacks Jake Waters and Daniel Sams added scores on the ground for Kansas State (1-1). Terrance Broadway threw and ran for a touchdown for Louisiana-Lafayette (0-2), which took too long to get its offense going.
The Wildcats came out motivated on the heels of a loss to North Dakota State, taking a 17-3 lead by the 11:20 mark of the second quarter. However, the real fireworks didn't come until the second half, when the teams combined for six touchdowns within the first 11:25.
Thompson got things started by returning the opening kickoff of the third quarter 94 yards for a score, and then bringing back a punt 79 yards to just short of the goal line to set up a 1-yard sneak by Waters. Louisiana-Lafayette's Darryl Surgent returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, and an interception set up a 4-yard run by Broadway to give the Cajuns' 14 quick points.
The Wildcats' Ty Zimmerman intercepted Broadway and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown. Broadway then hit Jamal Robinson for an 18-yard scoring strike with 3:35 left in the third quarter to cut Kansas State' lead to 41-24.
