McMurry University men's basketball head coach Chris Beard has announced that Chris Campbell (Friendswood, Texas) has committed to join the War Hawks' program for the 2012-13 season .
Campbell is a 6-foot-3 guard out of Clear Brook High School in the Houston suburbs.
Campbell played under CBHS head coach Jason Pillow, earning three varsity letters. During those three seasons, Campbell rolled up 1,044 career points. As a senior, he averaged 16.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in leading the Wolverines to a 29-4 record and state playoff bid. He was also a team captain his final campaign.
Cambell was a unanimous first team All-District 24-5A selection as both a junior and senior. He was picked to play in the 2012 Houston Coaches Association All-Star Game, as well.
Campbell also lettered in track and field at CBHS.
“Chris will be a great addition for McMurry,” Pillow said. “He is an outstanding young man from a great family. He has the size, athleticism and skill to be a good guard in college.
“Chris is also one of the most coachable and team-oriented players I have ever coached.”
McMurry opens the 2012-13 season – its first as an NCAA Division II institution – on November 12 at home versus the University of the Southwest.
