Los Angeles Angels left-hander Tyler Skaggs will have Tommy John surgery and may be sidelined through the 2015 season, the team announced Sunday.

Skaggs was recently placed on the disabled list with a flexor strain.

This year, the 23-year-old is 5-5 with a 4.30 ERA in 113 innings. Skaggs was acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of a three-team trade involving the Chicago White Sox that sent outfielder Mark Trumbo to Arizona.

With Skaggs out, Hector Santiago and Matt Shoemaker will remain in the Angels rotation.
