Cisco, Albany ready for another...

CISCO, Texas - Though it's a non-district football game between teams in different classifications, Friday's tilt between Cisco and Albany could be one of the biggest match-ups of the season.

Both are traditional powers in their size groups (Cisco, 3A; Albany, 2A), and the two squared off in 2016 for the first time in nine years.

The Loboes won 34-7, snapping the Lions' home winning streak which spanned 44 games and started in 2008.

"They whooped our butts last year, so we want a little redemption," Albany senior quarterback and defensive back Brian Hamilton said. "It's a game that will definitely help for the playoffs."

"Coach [Brent] West says every team that plays us, it's like a Super Bowl for them," Cisco senior tight end and linebacker Jaxon Hearne said. "I expect them to come out pretty good, pretty hard against us."

Because these two teams are not in the same district, let alone the same classification, this game really serves to make both teams better for games that count toward the playoffs, and beyond.

"It gets us ready for district and the playoffs, if we go deep. It's a really good game for us," said Hearne.

"It gives us an idea of where we're going to be and things we need to work on," Albany head coach Denney Faith said. "We're looking at it as a way for our team to get better."

"I feel like every team we play in pre-season is one step closer to a state championship," Cisco senior lineman Jacob Reid said.

Both teams have been equally dominate. Over the past five seasons, both Albany and Cisco have won 89% of their games.

"It's a great opportunity for our kids to play a program like Cisco. We get to line up against one of the better teams in the state of Texas pre-district," said Faith.

"You better come ready to play because if you don't match their physicality they can embarrass you."

Cisco and Albany will kick-off at 7:30 Friday night from Chesley Field in Cisco.
