ABILENE, Tx - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team dropped another close game falling 72-69 to the University of the Ozarks on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowgirls had a 50-39 lead with 12:36 to play in the game but Ozarks scored the next 11 points to tie the game with 9:20 to play.
Ozarks eventually pushed the lead out to 66-60 with 5:02 to play. This time it was the Cowgirls turn to answer with a run. HSU scored the next nine points to take a 69-66 lead with 2:03 to play. In the run, Taylor Klement had five points, Kourtney Holyfield had two and Joanna Daniel hit a pair of free throws.
The Eagles had the answer this time as Ashley Hipps hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 69. Jordana Andrews hit a floater with the shot-clock winding down with :58 to play.
The Cowgirls missed a shot on their next possession and then got a defensive stop to have one more chance but turned the ball over with :01 remaining. Ashley Hipps split a pair of free throws to seal the game.
Klement led four Cowgirls in double figures with 15 points. Holyfield scored 14 and Daniel and Lauren Thomas had 10 points each.
Taylor Farmer led all scorers with 21 points and Andrews added 12. The Eagles shot 59.4 in the second half to overcome a 29-24 halftime deficit.
The Cowgirls are now 6-10 overall and 6-7 in ASC play. Ozarks improved to 5-12 overall and 4-10 in conference action. HSU plays at Texas-Dallas at 5:30 on Monday.
