ABIELENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team scored three goals in the first 6:25 of the second half and rolled to a 6-1 win over Chapman in non-conference action at the HSU Soccer Complex.
Vivian Wells put the Cowgirls on the board in the eighth minute when she converted a penalty kick. It was her first goals of the season.
Chapman answered in the 11th minute when Olivia Do converted a penalty kick.
HSU took the lead in the 31st minute on Taylor Thigpen's second goal of the season and took the 2-1 lead into halftime.
Wells scored on a Devon Howard assist just 1:51 into the second half. Julianne Kucera then added a pair of goals a little over a minute apart. She scored unassisted at the 50:13 mark and scored on a double assist from Caitlin Cramer and Thigpen at the 51:25 mark.
Caitlin Cramer then scored on a corner kick from Thigpen in the 68th minute to conclude the scoring.
HSU outshot Chapman 21-3 and 12-3 on goal. Lexi Stinson got the start in goal and had two saves in 77:29 of action. Abby Blunt worked the final 12:31. Marissa Fehrman had five saves for Chapman.
HSU is now 3-1 on the year and Chapman fell to 2-2. These two teams played in the first round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago with HSU winning, 1-0.
The Cowgirls will host UC-Santa Cruz next Saturday in its next action.
