ABILENE, Texas - The schedule in the HSU clubhouse shows just over ten games left in the regular season, and the Cowboys baseball team hopes its in a prime position to make a run at first place in the ASC West division.
A key to their success this year is the lack of long losing streaks to date. At 17-11 overall (7-5 ASC), the Cowboys sit two and a half games out of first place, which is currently occupied by Texas Lutheran (23-7, 9-0 ASC).
Head coach Steve Coleman believes his team needs to stay focused if they want a shot at first place.
"The last 10 ballgames we're 5-5. Quite frankly we have not played real well, we're hoping to get our mojo back a little bit. Be a little sharper and crisper in the games coming up because this time of the year, with 12 games remaining on the overall schedule, 6 games in conference play. These last games are going to determine our future, so we would like to start playing our best baseball," Coleman said.
Here's a quick glance at the road ahead. Up next is a home series against Chapman, which begins on Thursday. After that is a one-game series against Arlington Baptist, followed by an extremely important conference set against first-place Texas Lutheran.
HSU ends its season at home against Southwestern on April 16th. The regular season comes to a close on the road, a three-game series against Howard Payne starting on the 19th.
