ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's volleyball team will look for its fourth straight American Southwest Conference title this weekend when it travels to UT-Dallas for the 2013 ASC Volleyball Championship Tournament at the UTD Activities Center in Richardson.
The Cowgirls are making their ninth straight appearance in the ASC Tournament and have won four titles, more than any other school. HSU has been to the ASC final three other times and seven of its first eight trips to the league tournament. HSU is 17-4 all-time in the tournament.
HSU will open the tournament against Texas-Tyler. HSU is 2-0 against the Patriots this season with wins in four and five games. That match is slated for 2:30. With a win, the Cowgirls would play top-seeded Texas-Dallas at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. HSU and UTD played in the ASC Championship game last season with the Cowgirls winning 25-23, 25-23, 25-23. A loss against UT-Tyler will send them to a Friday elimination match at 2:30.
Leading the way for the Cowgirls is a strong senior class. Ashley Babineaux, Christine Sas, Tori Martinez and Belle Shaver are four-year lettermen. Addison Zaya is a two-year lettermen and Gabi Martinez is a three-year lettermen. They have combined to go 98-32 and have won three ASC titles. Sas and Tori Martinez were named first-team all-ASC and Babineaux was named to the second team.
Sas is going to go down as one of the top players in school history. She set three career records last week. She has now played in more sets (455), more matches (126) and had more service aces (183) than anyone in school history. She has also moved to second in career kills with 1401 and digs with 1607. She was named first-team all-ASC for the fourth time this season.
Sas leads the Cowgirls with 379 kills. Tori Martinez is close behind with 369 kills and she leads the team with 77 blocks. Babineaux has 611 digs, which is second in the ASC. Freshman Tucker Smith (670 assists) and junior Molli Owen (644 assists) split time at setter for the Cowgirls.

Sabrina Bingham is in her seventh season at the helm of the HSU program and she has won three ASC titles and finished runner-up two other times. She has a 162-60 career record and is the school's all-time wins leader in volleyball.
