ABILENE, Texas - The Abilene Christian volleyball team swept a doubleheader Saturday at Moody Coliseum to finish its Whitten Inn Classic with a perfect 3-0 record. The Wildcats began their day with a 3-1 win vs. Lone Star Conference rival Cameron and followed it with a 3-0 sweep of Texas-Permian Basin.
The two victories lifted ACU's season and conference records to 7-11 and 3-6, while the losses dropped Cameron and UT-PB to 7-13 and 6-12, respectively. ACU also moved ahead of the Aggies and Midwestern State Mustangs within the conference standings.
Four Wildcats registered 10-or-more kills in the four-set win (26-28, 25-23, 25-19, 25-27) over Cameron, led by Sara Oxford's 16. Rachel Riley and Jennie Loerch each had 11, while Corrie Reeder conributed 10 plus four blocks.
ACU also out-blocked the Aggies, 8.0-4.0, and received four from freshman setter Sarah Siemens, who also combined to toss up 88 assists between the two matches.
Madison Hoover led the Wildcats with 24 digs, followed by Caley Johnson with 14 and Oxford with 12. The Aggies hit just .096 for the match and were in the negative during set two's 25-23 defeat.
Riley paced ACU's offense in the nightcap with 13 kills as the Wildcats won by scores of 25-23, 25-15 and 25-19. Reeder also had a solid match with eight kills and a .438 hitting percentage.
Against the Falcons, Oxford recorded 14 digs and finished a kill shy of the double-double in totaling 11.0 points.
The Wildcats' homestand continues Tuesday with a 6 p.m. match vs. Dallas Baptist of the Heartland Conference.
