Across the country, thousands of athletes put pen to paper on Wednesday, making commitments to college programs official. The Big Country has its fair share of athletes "taking their talents" to difference schools.

Cooper's Lorenzo Joe was the first member of the Texas Longhorns' 2014 recruiting class to get his paperwork faxed in to Austin.

"All night it was hard to sleep, and I had to be up here bright and early this morning. Like you said, I was the first one to fax it in around 7:03 this morning," Joe said.

"It's one of the best feelings in the world knowing that I have an opportunity to go play at the next level. I want to thank my coaches and all my teammates for giving me this opportunity, because without them I wouldn't be in this spot right now," BYU, and Cooper teammate, Trey Dye said.

Across town at Abilene High, Eagles star defender Jake McMillon celebrated his signing with the Texas Longhorns.

"It was between Texas and TCU and Texas was just a better fit for me, I'm hoping i just get to be the best player i can. Just go out there and do what  I did here there, so that's the plan," McMillon said.

There will be strong ties to the Big 12 starting this fall. Stamford's James Washington signed with Oklahoma State, while Munday's LJ Collier inked with TCU. 2A Div. II state champ Mason Reed (Cisco) signed with Texas Tech.

"It's overwhelming, it's an honor first of all. I owe most of my success to my coaches, it's like a dream come true to become a Cowboy," Washington said.

There was also an abundance of talent staying closer to home. Many Big Country athletes chose to play football in Abilene and Brownwood.

Anson's Mitchel Hudson, Chris Villanueva & Lance Norman committed to play at Hardin-Simmons. The likes of Riley Owens (Cooper), Dylan Lewis (Brownwood), Bryan Johnson (Brownwood), Vernon Owings (Cisco) join them.
