CLINTON, Miss. - Both the men's and women's cross country teams gave outstanding showings at the 2012 Choctaw Trail meet, hosted by Mississippi CollegeThe War Hawks men won their division, while the women were second.
"I was really proud of both teams," said McM head coach David Chandler. "Both squads gave me a great effort today."
The McM men had 51 points in an outstanding grouping of its runners, out-distancing a field of 13 teams in the field. The McMurry women placed second out of 15 teams, trailing only West Florida University in the standings.
The men were led by Michael Dowd in fourth place overall, completing the 8-kilometer course in a time of 27:17.45 minutes. The War Hawks also had the fifth and sixth place finishers in Hector Flores (27:37.32) and Bo Porter (27:28.25).
After Shane Floyd in 16th place (in a time of 27:49.36), McMurry again had another group in places 20 through 23. The quartet included Trent Fulk (28:14.75), Evan Sperling (28:26.85), Luke Scribner (28:35.06) and Naoshi Okamoto (28:43.70), in order.
For the McMurry women, Lauren Peery led the team for the second race in a row, placing eighth in a time of 19:44.85 minutes. Perry was joined by five other teammates within the top-25 finishers.
In 10th place was Mary Affleck (19:51.54) and CeCe Ramirez in 16th (20:25.04). 19th place belonged to Alyssa Fields (20:30.38). Brittney McGuire (20:45.68) and Chantel Ruffin(20:47.48) were 24th and 25th, respectively.
