DELHI, La. - McMurry University's men's golf team held off the competition to win the 17-team Mississippi College Spring Invitational, held Monday and Tuesday at the Black Bear Golf Course.
The win is the second of the season for the War Hawks, having also won the Texas A&M-International event three weeks ago. In the Mississippi College tourney, McMurry held a three-shot lead (328 to 331) over Texas-Tyler after the first 18 holes on Monday, with both teams posting identical tallies of 307 on Tuesday (giving McM a 635 for the 36 holes).
Two War Hawks – sophomore Matt Porter and senior Matt Ragovin – both finished in the top-10. Porter fired a round of 80 in blustery conditions on Monday, finishing the day tied for fifth, before his Tuesday 76 gave him a composite of 156 and third place overall.
Ragovin had another outstanding tournament for McM head coach Russ Evans. Ragovin was in third after Day 1 with a 77 and ended the tourney with an aggregate 158 and 6th place after Tuesday's 81.
Mitchel Fagan finished tied for 16th place with a 36-hole total of 161 (85-76), followed by Garrett Betts in a tie for 30th at 164 (90-74).
Morgan Wright rounded out the War Hawks' entrants with rounds of 86 and 83, and a final.
