WOMEN'S COLLEGE HOOPS: Cowgirls Come Up Short In Overtime To Texas-Dallas

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team overcame a 20-point second-half deficit to force overtime, but fell 77-67 to Texas-Dallas in the American Southwest Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.

UTD used an 11-2 run midway through the first half to open up a 21-9 lead and the Comets would keep a double-digit lead going into halftime at 38-26.

The Comets pushed the lead out to 49-28 with 17:07 before the Cowgirls started a comeback. Alicia Finn scored four straight points and Taylor Klement made a layup to make it 51-37 with 12:34 to play. Morgan Kilgore scored a layup at 12:17 to play to m make it 53-37 and then the Cowgirls' defense tightened down.

HSU scored 14 straight points. Daniel had 11 of those points, she made a layup, an old-fashion 3-point play and two straight 3-pointers and Lauren Thomas hit a 3-pointer in the run. Daniel's last 3-pointer made it 53-51 with 7:06 to play.

Madi Hess scored the first points for UTD in 6:18 second on a layup with 5:59 to play and the Comets pushed the lead to 59-51 with two more layups. HSU battled back once again and Thomas' 3-pointer with 1:37 cut the deficit to 61-59. 

Thomas then tied the game with a pair of free throws with :58 to play. HSU then got a stop and Thomas hit a layup with :15 to play to take a 63-61 lead. Ciara Guilhas then tied the game with seven seconds to play and HSU had one last chance for the win, but Daniel's jumper rimmed out and the game went to overtime.

Daniel led the Cowgirls with a season-best 18 points off the bench. Thomas had 11 points, 10 of which came in the second half. Amber Brown led UTD with 24 points and Kilgore had 21 points and 13 rebounds.

UTD outscored the Cowgirls 14-4 in the extra frame to remain perfect on the season at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in ASC action. HSU fell to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in ASC action.

The Cowgirls will return to action next Thursday at the University of the Ozarks.
