Cooper's success driven by camaraderie

The Cougars have won their first two games

Coogs' chemistry, attitude leading to...

ABILENE, Texas - The Cooper Cougars are 2-0 for the first time since 2012, and it wasn't easy.

Cooper had to muster a comeback against Grapevine, a team which clobbered the Coogs by 54 points last season.

In the first half, Cooper trailed 21-7, but didn't allow a repeat performance of that blowout loss. Instead, the Cougars rallied and scored the game-winning touchdown on Ender Freeman's 22-yard pass to Myller Royals with just over a minute to play.

"I think their chemistry is really good," Cooper head coach Todd Moebes said. "Their body languages are good on the sideline. They're good when they go back on the field, and when adversity strikes they're confident in their ability to play the next play.

"I think that says a lot about them, and I'm more proud of that aspect than I am any gaudy stats or even a victory at this point in time."

Abilene High stands in the way of a 3-0 start for the Coogs. Cooper hasn't begun a season with three straight wins since 2010.

The Crosstown Showdown will take place on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Shotwell Stadium.
