CYCLING: Tour De Gap getting set for 30th anniversary
On Saturday, July 26th, 2013, cyclists will race through Buffalo Gap in the 30th annual Tour De Gap.
This annual bike race has occurred on the 4th Saturday of July for the last 30 years. It's an event that isn't just for competitive cyclists. Recreational riders of a wide range of ages have been participating in this event since it started in 1983.
"I've been in Abilene now for a little over 20 years and I've been watching this event grow and in the last several years it has really taken off" says Biketown owner and event organizer Jim MacDonald.
"It's really fun to watch people grasp whats going on out there and it's fun to watch this event grow and bring in new people and see recreational riders have a good time," added MacDonald.
Portions of the proceeds from the Tour De Gap are donated to the Central West Texas Food Bank.
