Hardin-Simmons’ track teams had a solid night at the Oliver Jackson Twilight at Abilene Christian University on Wednesday.
Freshman Evlyn Collins set a school record in the discus with a throw of 138-1, which is the 23rd best throw in the nation. The NCAA takes 22 participants in each event. She has one more attempt this weekend at the Trinity Last Chance Meet to qualify. Collins threw the javelin 147, to finish third.
Sophomore Derek Footer, who went to the NCAAs as a freshman in the 110 hurdles, had his best time of the year with a 14.60 and is now in sixth place on the Division III qualifier list.
Footer finished second in both the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles. He ran a 57.35 in the 400H.
Freshman Bradley Hutcheson ran a 10.97 in the 100, but for the third time this season his sub-11.00 100 was thrown out by excessive wind readings.
Lauren Rodgers ran a 1:01.57 in the 400.
Senior Kami Bellah did not compete on Wednesday, but she is currently ranked fifth nationally in the long jump and 11th in the triple jump.
