RICHARDSON, Texas -

Texas-Dallas senior forward Morgan Kilgore was named Player of the Year the league office announced in conjunction with the release of the 2014 American Southwest Conference Women's Basketball All-Conference teams on Wednesday (March 5), following a vote of the league's head coaches.

Kilgore’s ASC Player of the Year award is one of six honors received by league players. Howard Payne junior center Kalin Hanna was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Louisiana College guard/forward Natosha Morvant received league Freshman of the Year honors and Mary Hardin-Baylor junior guard Alyssa Dean and Mississippi College senior forward Dominique Walker were named Co-Newcomers of the Year. Sul Ross State senior guard Asrelle Anderson received the Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year award and Texas-Tyler coach Kevin Baker was named the ASC Coach of the Year.

Kilgore(Webster, Texas/Clear Springs HS) started all 27 games for the Comets and led the ASC in made field goals (186) and ranked second in league scoring (17.8). A two-time all-conference selection, Kilgore set the UTD single-season points record (480) and moved into fifth place on the Comets' career scoring list (867) in just two seasons with the program.

Hanna(Flower Mound, Texas/ Coram Deo Academy) owned the low post all year setting the ASC record for most blocks in a season with 89 and ranked 10th in NCAA Division III. Hanna’s 3.4 blocks per game average also broke the conference record set in 1997.

Morvant(Mittie, La./Fairview HS) started all 27 games for the Lady Wildcats racking up 234 total points, 163 rebounds and handed out 35 assists and had 44 steals.

Dean(Houston, Texas/Aviano HS) ranked 11th in league scoring (13.8) in addition to 108 rebounds, 54 assists and 35 steals. Walker(Yazoo City, Miss./Yazoo City HS) ranked fourth in the ASC in rebounds (8.5), sixth in scoring (15.0) and ranked 11th in field goal percentage (.504).

 

Anderson(Austin, Texas/Crockett HS) started all 24 games for the Lobos scoring 228 total points on the year with 32 treys and pulled down 64 rebounds in addition to 25 assists and 22 steals.

In just his second season at Texas-Tyler Kevin Baker led the Patriots to a team record in conference (20-2) and overall wins (25-3). Texas-Tyler is one of just three ASC teams to reach the 20-win mark in league play.

Texas-Tyler led all teams with six players recognized by the conference. Mary Hardin-Baylor and Howard Payne had five each while Concordia Texas, Louisiana College and Texas-Dallas received four apiece. Hardin-Simmons and Mississippi College recorded three each and East Texas Baptist, LeTourneau and Ozarks had two apiece.
