McMurry Women's Hoops at CSU-Pueblo Tourney
McMurry University’s women’s basketball team will take part in the 30th annual Al Kaly Shrine Classic at CSU-Pueblo thiscoming Friday and Saturday (Nov. 15-16). The War Hawks (0-2) will take on host CSU-Pueblo on Friday (2 p.m. CT) and face Colorado School of the Mines on Saturday (6 p.m. CT), both at Massari Arena.
McM will be playing in its second tourney of the season, having opened at the St. Mary’s Classic with setbacks to Angelo State University and a narrow loss to Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
Senior Keshia Collins is once again leading her team by averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Collins is also averaging a team-leading 4.0 steals per game, displaying her prowess on both ends of the floor.
Senior guard Tory Salazar and sophomore guard Sierra Maykus check in at 8.5 and 8.0 p.p.g., respectively. Salazar is shooting 50-percent from the field, while Maykus has hit 40-percent from beyond the arc.
Junior transfer Adijatu Disu’s McM career has begun with averages of 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Disu is shooting 46 percent from the floor.
CSU-Pueblo comes in with a 1-1 record, having lost to Midwestern State University and defeated Eastern New Mexico University in last weekend’s Adams State (Colo.) Tournament. The ThunderWolves average 65.0 points per game and shoot nearly 41 percent from the field. Pueblo has allowed 67.0 p.p.g. and been out-rebounded by an average of 6.0 boards per game.
Colorado Mines will be playing its first games of the season. The Orediggers will face McMurry’s Heartland Conference mate Oklahoma Christian University in their first-round game on Friday, before battling the War Hawks.
