McMurry's Aaron Burns Garners Second-Team All-Conference Selection
McMurry University standout pitcher, Aaron Burns, has been named an All- Heartland Conference Second-Team selection announced the conference office on Wednesday morning.
Burns made the most of his first season with the War Hawks, totaling a 7-3 record with a 2.78 ERA. Burns also led the team in innings pitched (90.2) and strikeouts (68). Those marks were also good enough to rank him in the top ten in the conference (6th in innings pitched and third in strikeouts).
Perhaps the more telling statistics on how effective Burns was this season are his numbers against Heartland Conference opponents. The freshman righty appeared in 12 games against conference opponents, all starts, and posted a 7-1 record and a gaudy, 1.83 ERA. His lone loss was against Texas – Permian Basin in a game in which he did not allow an earned run.
Through 78.2 innings of work against the conference, Burns allowed 78 hits, but just 10 of them were for extra bases (9 doubles, 1 triple). He also walked just 15 batters while striking out 64 opponents. Allowing just 16 earned runs in the 12 contests, Burns allowed more than two earned runs just once (April 20 in a win over Texas A&M – International) and didn't allow an earned run in an appearance, four times.
Burns becomes the first McMurry baseball player of the NCAA Division II era to earn all-conference distinction.
