The Lone Star Conference recognized its softball standouts Tuesday as the postseason awards were announce by league officials prior to this week’s championship.
Overall 41 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program, with at least one player from all 10 LSC teams. The awards are voted upon by the league coaches, who determined a 16-player first team by position, and second and third teams, each consisting of 12 players regardless of positions.
TWU, which won the conference title for the first time with a 21-6 record, was represented on the All-LSC first team by pitcher Brandie Lander, utility player Katie Hines, shortstop Bailey Vrazel, and third baseman Jordan Readicker.
The Pioneers claimed several special awards as well. Hines was tabbed Player of the Year, Lander earned Pitcher of the Year and Co-Newcomer of the Year acclaim, and Richie Bruister captured Coach of the Year honors.
Midwestern State’s Katelyn Vinson claimed Freshman of the Year, while Angelo State’s Sandra Serna shared Newcomer of the Year.
West Texas A&M and MSU each had six players named to the all-conference team, while ASU had five. Abilene Christian, Cameron and Incarnate Word all had four players recognized, while Tarleton State had two, and Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Kingsville one apiece.
ACU's Lyndi Smith (2nd-team), Sara Vaughn (2nd-team) & Caitlin Crane (3rd-team) were also named to the conference honors.
