Senior Chloe Susset won her second cross country race of the fall and posted her fourth-consecutive top-15 finish Saturday morning at the Incarnate Word Invitational hosted by Live Oak Park.
Susset finished first of 96 competitors, completing the 6K course in 22 minutes, 30.48 seconds - a comfortable 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Naraly Rodriguez of Texas-Permian Basin (22:51.36). Vanessa Garcia of UT-Brownsville (22:54.37) was third, Robin Galloso of UTPB was fourth (22:56.05) and Wildcat freshman Diana Garcia-Munoz rounded out the top-five with her time of 23:03.90.
ACU had only one other runner crack the top-25 and that was freshman Landa Dowdy, who placed 21st in 24:23.62. The next two Wildcat runners - freshmen Michaela Hackett and Kim Lamadrid - were 32nd and 40th, respectively, with times of 24:56.18 and 25:14.20.
As a team, ACU placed second to host UIW among four NCAA D-I schools with 58 points. The Cardinals totaled 39 points and were led to the finish line by Irma Garza (23:24.11) and Christina Rivera (23:24.98), who captured seventh and eighth place, respectively.
Texas State placed third with 60 points and Texas-Pan American was fourth with 62 points.
UTPB was first among seven non-DI schools with 39 points and UT-Brownsville was a distant second with 74 points.
ACU's men's team, meanwhile, placed fourth (93 points) out of five D-I schools with their lone victory coming against Incarnate Word, which came in last with 103 points. UTSA ran away with the team title by having three runners finish among the top-15.
UTSA's Mike Medrano was the top D-I runner today with an 8K time of 26:13.98, but the overall individual champion was UT-Brownsville's David Guillen (25:50.40). Lubbock Christian's Isacc Placencia was the runner-up at 9.09 seconds behind Guillen.
For the fourth time in as many chances, senior Erik Forrister was first to the finish line for the Wildcats with a mark of 27:33.37. Newcomers Daniel Block (27:46.55) and Chad Caton (28:13.46) also cracked the top 30.
The Wildcats are in action again next Saturday for the NCAA Pre-Nationals hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind.
