Track Finds Success at Masked Rider Open

McMurry University finished the second day of the Texas Tech Masked Rider Open with more quality times to the teams credit and several personal best marks along the way. In Friday’s first day of action, McMurry set four school records.

In the men’s 200, Victory Cruz ran a season-best time of 21.93 seconds to place 10th in the crowded field of the 200 meters. Teammate Desmond Williams was 26th (22.42).

In the women’s mile, sophomore Mary Affleck and junior Lauren Peery were 18th and 19th, respectively. Affleck crossed the line at 5:46.63 and Perry at 5:52.82.

Bo Porter was 17th in the men’s mile at 4:31.96 minutes.

Sophomore Lance Andrews had his fastest time of the year in the 400 meter race with a clocking of 49.81 seconds, good for 15th place. Willie Poindexter was 22nd place at 50.76.

The men’s 4x400 meter relay quartet of Scout Hale, Poindexter, Keon Mays and Jacob Norris combined for a time of 3:19.87, earning a ninth-place finish.

In the field events, women’s pole vaulters Mariah Steinbock and Brittney Burgess were eighth and 14th.  Steinbock cleared 10’ 11 ¾”, while Burgess went out at 10’ even.

Freshman Derrick Randle produced his best effort in the men’s triple jump, leaping 46’ 2 ¾”. The effort was a personal best by nearly two feet.

HSU Competes In Masked Rider Invitational

Hardin-Simmons’ track teams competed in the Masked Rider Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Lubbock.

Women

Krysten Mellette ran a 7.81 in the 55 dash and Paige Goen ran an 8.47. Goen ran a 10.37 in the 55 hurdles. Aaron Livingston ran a 28.41 in the 200, Mellette had a 28.23, Kaley Tunrer a 29.42 and Goen a 29.64.

Evlyn Collins had a throw of 44-0 ½ to advance to the finals in the weight throw and Elissa Paniagua fouled out.

Men

Kelandrix Singleton ran a 6.76 in the 55 meter dash in his first event as a Cowboy. He was just off the school record of 6.60. Derek Footer ran a 7.10 in the 55 meters. Footer ran a 7.88 in his heat in the 55 hurdles and ran a 7.96 in the semifinals to miss the final by one spot.

Singleton ran a 23.56 in the 200, Footer ran a 24.04 and Zeth Barron a 24.69. Luke Wells ran a 56.20 in the 400.

Clay Smith ran a 1:16.98 in the 600 yard run and Luke Wells ran a 1:22.08. Garrett Alexander ran a 2:57.57 in the 1000 meters. Smith ran a 4:42.65 in the mile. Alexander ran a 2:08.45 in the 800.

Dustin Baker tossed the shot put 45-0 ¼ and Cody Parker fouled out. Baker had a 43-10 ¾ in the weight throw and Parker had a toss of 42-9 ½.

HSU will next be in action on Feb. 8 at the Central Oklahoma Invitational that will be ran at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
