War Hawks Earn NCCAA Track Accolades
McMurry University student-athletes Tiana Alexander and Paul Davis were each honored as the National Christian College Athletic Association “Athlete of the Week” for their respective genders, it was announced today.
Alexander earned the women’s weekly honor for both track and field events by setting the McMurry school record in the 55-meter hurdles. Alexander finished sixth out of 42 competitors at the Texas Tech Masked Rider Open. She set a McMurry school record in the semifinals, running a blistering 8.15 seconds. Alexander also placed third in the women’s long jump with a season-best mark of 18’ 4 ¼”.
Alexander ranks first in the NCCAA’s 55 hurdles ranking, and is second-ranked in the long jump.
Davis won the men’s shot put with an effort of 65’ 3 ¼”. It was the second-best indoor shot put mark ever recorded in NCAA II history. Additionally, his distance was both a McMurry and Lone Star Conference record (the sixth time Davis has set McM’s school standard and nearly 11 feet better than the previous LSC record holder). Davis is ranked No. 1 in the NCCAA indoor shot put.
It was the third-consecutive week of corralling the NCCAA weekly recognition for Davis.
