With two losses on the books, Abilene High returns to Shotwell for district opener
It's been many years since Abilene High began district play without a mark in the win column. With a combined 27-87 score against both Hebron & Duncanville, fans are hoping that a return to Shotwell is just what the doctor ordered.
Abilene High begins the 2013 district season with a visit from Amarillo Tascosa (1-1), a team they dismantled on the road a year ago, 49-7.
"The intensity level ratchets up. That's what we want. We don't play these teams, Duncanville and Hebron, for any other reason than making our team better for when it really counts," Eagles head coach Steve Warren said Tuesday.
His coaching staff preaches the importance of winning games in the "Second season", district games that determine whether a team earns a spot in the playoffs.
Warren also spoke about the points his team can take away from both of its losses.
"We want to be sitting here knowing what we need to do to in order to be 1-0 friday night in district play," Warren said.
Amarillo Tascosa and Abilene High kick off Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Shotwell Stadium.
