HAWLEY, Tx. -

Hawley junior running back/defensive back Rex Wyatt had four touchdowns en route to Hawley's first season win – a 58-38 victory over Grape Creek.

The Bearcats football program is in the process of breaking through a mediocre reputation. Wyatt sparked the win column on Friday night, rightfully earning the KTXS/ATFCU Week 1 Player of the Week award.

"I know Rex did a great job. It was one of those nights where every time he touched the ball he was just golden. Even on defense, what's different now, is we aren't going in hoping to win, we're expecting to win," head coach Brad Schoonmaker said.

Wyatt led the charge, starting on the defensive side of the ball. He had an interception in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Wyatt picked up about 100 yards on two touchdown runs.

"We're really excited for next week, trying to keep going,” Wyatt said. “I know it's only preseason, but we're gonna try to keep going all the way into district. Everyone's definitely excited about this year. More in the past, we haven't had that many come out, but recently we've had a lot of people ask about the season, so they're excited."

Hawley will head to Hamlin on Friday in hopes of gaining its second season win.
