ABILENE, Texas -

The Wylie Bulldogs enter 2013 as the preseason favorite to win district 4-3A, according to Dave Campbell's Texas High School Football, but that's not something they really want to talk about just yet.

They return just 4 starters from last season, in which the Bulldogs advanced to the regional finals of the 3-A Div. I playoffs. Wylie comes into this year with expectations of winning district for a second straight year, and just as much excitement for head coach Hugh Sandifer.

"This is the 35th year of 2-a-days I've had at wylie. And I didn't sleep well last night. Just the anticipation, fells good," Sandifer said.

He added, "We went to work in January for this season. January through May and all season. We've worked into summer, and now we're getting closer to those games. That's what makes it exciting, coming out and start practicing football."

When asked about expections for the upcoming season, Sandifer said the pressure on his team is to perform.

"We do have goals every year to win the district championship. But we'd sure like to play a little bit further than that. We try to make sure we put ourselves in a position where we can do that," Sandifer said.

The Bulldogs' first game is against a familiar non-district foe, the Argyle Eagles, which Wylie pulled the upset against to begin 2012. They'll play Bridgeport, Graham, Brownwood and Lub. Estacado to round out their non-district schedule.
