ABILENE, Texas -

Record breaking high temperatures are possible Wednesday afternoon with highs expected to be well into the 100s.

The record high for Wednesday is only 103 set last year and it should fall  with a forecast high of 106 in Abilene.

We keep a mostly sunny sky and light southwest wind in the forecast all aiding in those very warm temperatures.

The heat we're dealing with is due to the ridge of high pressure centered over the Big Country.

This allows temperatures to heat up and also squashes any rain chances.

Highs should move back up to around 106 on Thursday.

Heading into this weekend temps should be falling closer to the century mark.
