ABILENE, Texas -

Warmer weather is back into West Texas on Friday! Early morning high and mid-level clouds will decrease by late morning with temperatures this afternoon moving into the middle and upper 70s. South winds will be breezy from 15-25mph gusting even higher at times. This will elevate the fire danger for all of us.

Late tonight clouds begin to increase as a cold front works its way southward through the Central Plains states and into West Central Texas. Winds will turn to the north in the hours just after midnight and set the stage for a cooler first half of the weekend. Look for light showers to become possible toward sunrise. Lows drop into the lower and mid 40s by daybreak.

Saturday turns out mostly cloudy with light scattered showers into the afternoon. We are not expecting heavy rainfall but instead light rain to dot the radar screen. With all the cloud cover and expected precipitation, the mercury gets relegated to the upper 40s and lower 50s. North winds will be brisk from 15-20 gusting as high as 30mph.

Wet weather should taper into Saturday night leaving just clouds for the overnight period. Southern sections, however, will retain scattered shower chances as the upper-level system responsible for the rainfall will be closer in proximity to these areas. Low temperatures will be in the mid 30s.

Morning cloudiness on Sunday should give way to a bit of sunshine throughout the afternoon especially for the northern half of our viewing area. Slight shower chances will remain for the southern half. The mercury responds a bit into the upper 50s to lower 60s across the board. Winds will be light throughout the day.

Partly cloudy weather and increasing warmth builds back in to start the new work week. Readings shoot for around 70 on Monday.

It is worth noting that if this upper-level disturbance manages to take a more northerly course through West Texas over the next few days, we may need to expand some cloud cover and light showers back in this direction.

A cold front arrives Tuesday evening but only a minimal increase in cloud cover is expected. Highs get into the middle and upper 70s before strong cooling arrives for Tuesday night via very breezy northerly winds.

Wednesday stays dry and breaks out sunny skies after early clouds scatter. Below normal high temperatures are in the forecast in the mid to upper 50s. North winds remain breezy.

Breezy conditions shift to the west and southwest for Thursday. Another warming trend should be getting underway at this point. The thermometer reaches the lower 60s.
