Anthony Domol: Heat backs off early week then comes again

ABILENE, Texas - Good Saturday evening everyone! Sunny skies dominated our weather through early afternoon here on the first half of the weekend. Some puffy cumulus clouds have developed in recent hours and we have been tracking a few isolated thundershowers in our northern tier of counties. The mercury has soared in most areas into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees. Winds have been from the south at 10-15.

Early this evening partly cloudy skies are in the forecast along with a slight chance for an isolated thundershower to occur north of I-20. Judging by radar presentation and incoming short term high resolution computer guidance, any rainfall of consequence looks to stay well north of I-20.

Clouds will tend to dissipate with the loss of daytime heating as the evening wears on leaving fair skies for the overnight period. Readings will slowly fall through the 90s and into the middle 80s as we move toward the midnight hour. Winds continue from the south at 10 mph.

Sunday starts with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s and shakes out sunny for the first half of the day. Some afternoon pop-up clouds are projected to develop along with a slight chance for a thundershower mainly north of I-20. Expect another day with above normal temperatures for West Texas. Highs work into the upper 90s. South southwesterly flow comes at us around 10 mph.

A weak cold front is projected to settle southward into the Big Country on Monday morning. This boundary will be responsible for isolated to scattered thundershowers mainly Monday afternoon. We reach the lower to mid 90s on the first day of the work week. Winds blow from the northeast near 10 mph.

It now appears as though Tuesday and Wednesday will be dry days for most of West Central Texas. Sunshine will be plentiful. A shower or thundershower could still affect our extreme southern zones on Tuesday but significant precipitation is unlikely. Temperatures warm into the lower to middle 90s.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this coming week yield generous sunshine and a resurgence of heat into West Texas. Look for upper 90s on Thursday and near triple digits Friday and Saturday.
