ABILENE, Texas - Today we head for the mid and upper 70s on this last day of the work week! Partly cloudy skies will be with us as south winds from 10-20 mph push warmer air into West Texas.
Tonight clouds will increase toward Saturday morning with an isolated shower possible. Lows stay mild in the lower and middle 50s.
A 30% chance for scattered showers and even a thunderstorm does exist from the morning into the early afternoon hours of Saturday. The best opportunity for any wet weather will be in our northern and eastern counties. Readings will climb into the middle 70s with a bit of afternoon sunshine emerging. South winds will shift to the west and blow from 10-15 mph.
A cold front comes through our region in the mid-evening hours and turns winds to the north. Wind speeds will accelerate to 25-30 mph after midnight. Gusts can reach even higher. A slight chance for scattered showers will be left in the forecast for the overnight period as some moisture on the back side of the system clips the area. Temps fall into the lower 40s by Sunday morning.
Any wet weather on Sunday should be concluding early in the day. Some sunshine will begin to emerge as we move along. The mercury will be held at much cooler levels in the upper 50s as north winds blow from 20-25 mph.
Wind speeds decrease significantly Sunday evening. Skies begin to clear. This sets the stage for a cold start to Monday in the lower to middle 30s.
Sunshine will be plentiful for Monday and Tuesday and significant warming gets back underway. The forecast includes low to mid 70s for Monday followed by highs near 80 on Tuesday. Models indicate a cold front approaching during the day on Tuesday. If the front holds off until evening, we can get well into the 80s.
The cooler air behind the front keeps us in the middle 60s for Wednesday before a quick recovery on Thursday back into the lower 70s.
