ABILENE, Texas -

Today we have a mild afternoon developing with temperatures making a run for the 70 degree mark. Partly sunny skies are expected with south winds from 5-10mph.

Tonight skies will be variably cloudy as a strong cold front arrives in the northern Big Country after midnight. The frontal boundary will sweep through our entire viewing area by late Tuesday morning.

Readings will fall rapidly into the upper 30s and lower 40s for all of us. Scattered showers will be possible as the cold front moves through the region. Neither heavy rain nor severe weather is anticipated.

Tuesday afternoon is shaping up to be 20 degrees or more below normal across West Central Texas. Temperatures will be hovering in the lower to middle 40s as some sunshine tries to break through the clouds later in the day. A scattered shower is possible up until around the noon hour. North winds will be very breezy from 15-20 with gusts to around 30 mph.

Tuesday night skies should clear and winds will decrease setting the stage for a potential hard freeze. The mercury will be headed for the upper 20s and lower 30s across the area.

Sunny skies are back in the forecast for Wednesday with highs in the lower to mid 50s.

Mostly cloudy conditions are expected on Thursday as we rebound to near 60 degrees.

A new weather maker will bring us a chance for showers late Friday into Saturday under mostly cloudy skies. Temps will be warmer heading into the weekend with highs getting close to 70 degrees.
