ABILENE, Texas -

Partly cloudy skies are expected on Friday across the Big Country. Some mid-level cloud cover will work its way into the southern half of our viewing area but rainfall is not expected. High temperatures will be in the middle and upper 50s. Winds remain light throughout the afternoon.

Tonight variably cloudy skies will take us into the overnight with lows in the middle 30s.

Saturday we start off with some scattered cloud cover but the afternoon should yield a good amount of sunshine and highs near 60 to the lower 60s. Winds become a bit breezier in the afternoon hours from the south and gust to 25 mph.

Early Sunday morning a strong cold front moves its way southward into West Texas turning winds northerly at 15-25mph and dropping readings through the 40s and into the 30s. A period of cloud cover should accompany the passage of the front. Some drizzle cannot be ruled out but rainfall of any consequence is unlikely.

Monday sunny skies resume and temperatures moderate slightly but will still remain below normal in the upper 40s.

Sunshine is also in the forecast for Tuesday along with strong warming to around 60 degrees via southerly winds.

Another cold front is scheduled to approach the region later Wednesday into the Thursday time frame. As of now, we will keep highs in the middle 50s for Wednesday under mostly sunny skies. Thursday the mercury climbs to around 50 under partly cloudy conditions. There is some uncertainty with the timing of this mid-late week cold front so check back for future forecasts as we get more information.
