ABILENE, Texas -

Good Saturday evening everyone! Some high clouds mixed with the sunshine this afternoon but readings have still managed to warm into the mid-upper 90s area wide. Winds continued breezy today from 10-20 mph. No rainfall has been observed within our viewing area.

Tonight look for temperatures to fall into the lower to middle 70s by daybreak Sunday. Southerly flow comes into the region at 5-15 mph. A thinning of the high cloud deck can be expected into Sunday morning.

Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies are predicted for Sunday across West Texas. The best sunshine will be seen in eastern locations. Latest model guidance suggests that an isolated shower or thundershower may approach our far western and northwestern counties by late afternoon and into the evening. Most spots will stay dry, however. Highs reach the upper 90s. South winds blow around 15 mph.

The first couple days of the work week turn out mostly sunny with a few passing clouds. No rain chances are in the forecast for this time period. Expect a continuation of above normal temperatures in the upper 90s. Southeast winds go at 10-15 mph.

Wednesday starts with expansive sunshine. Late morning and afternoon clouds will develop and mix with the sun. A few isolated showers and thundershowers may occur in the heating of the day mainly in eastern and southeastern areas closer to some tropical moisture trying to move into our region. The mercury hits the upper 90s. Southeast winds come at us from 10-15 mph.

Thursday we track a cold front approaching from the north and west late in the day. Partly sunny conditions are projected with a chance for afternoon and evening scattered showers and thundershowers. Southerly winds go around 10-15 mph and highs climb into the lower 90s.

Differences exist in the computer models as to whether the cold frontal boundary progresses through the region or hangs around into Friday afternoon. If the front passes, Friday shakes out dry for most folks with only the southern part of our viewing area retaining slight rain chances. If the boundary lingers, scattered thundershowers would be possible on the last day of the work week area wide. Nevertheless, a partly cloudy to partly sunny sky condition is likely with the thermometer ranging from 90 to the lower 90s.

Looking into next weekend, mixed sun and clouds is the forecast at present. Some indications keep a slight thundershower opportunity for our southern areas on Saturday. Temps surge back into at least the middle 90s.
