ABILENE, Texas - Good Saturday evening everyone! We saw a healthy cloud field this morning along with a few heavier showers in some isolated locations. Sunshine did manage to break out this afternoon, however, and warmed us quickly into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees area wide. Winds have been southerly today at 10-15 mph.
This evening partly cloudy conditions will carry into the overnight period. A few showers and thundershowers can occur but widespread rainfall is unlikely. Lows fall into the middle 70s by daybreak Sunday. Winds will be from the south near 10 mph.
A mix of sun and clouds is likely for the back half of our weekend. Pop-up showers and thundershowers are likely to develop during the afternoon and evening hours. Best focus for wet weather seems to be aimed for areas around I-20 and south. Highs reach the middle to upper 90s. Southerly winds go from 10-15 mph.
Any activity should taper significantly overnight Sunday into Monday morning though an isolated thundershower cannot be ruled out as a possibility. Expect lows in the lower to mid 70s and south winds around 10 mph.
Monday gives sunshine and mixed clouds boosting readings into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees. With afternoon heating, an isolated thundershower can develop. Breezes remain from a southerly direction at 10-15 mph.
Tuesday begins with plentiful sun and sees some late morning / early afternoon cumulus clouds develop. Again, the opportunity is there for a heating of the day isolated shower or thundershower to occur. The mercury heads for the middle to upper 90s.
Sunshine becomes the dominant weather item heading into Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. A ridge of high pressure will begin to strengthen over West Texas during this time frame and limit rain chances. The thermometer continues to show daytime numbers in the upper 90s.
A very early look at next weekend's weather shows high pressure continuing over the Lone Star State promoting sunshine and minimizing rain chances. Temperatures will be close to triple digit territory.
