ABILENE, Texas -

Strong winds, dry air, and warm weather will make for an elevated fire danger for much of the area Thursday.

Highs will warm to the low 80s with partly cloudy skies. South winds will be strong at 20 to 25 mph, leading to an elevated fire danger.

Much of the region is under a Fire Weather Watch Thursday because of the warm weather, dry air, and gusty winds.

Overnight Thursday we'll cool into the low 50s with partly cloudy skies and calmer winds.

Friday, we'll see another cold front move through but rain chances won't come with it. Highs will warm to the upper 70s ahead of the front with north winds at 10 to 15 mph.

Into the weekend, look for a cool start to Saturday, in the mid 40s. By the afternoon we'll see highs in the mid 70s.

We'll warm right back into the low 80s Sunday with sunshine to spare.

The start of our next work week will be sunny with a cold front stalling across the region. The placement of the front will affect the afternoon highs on Monday. Presently, we'll go with 80 degrees.

Tuesday and Wednesday look for mostly cloudy skies with afternoon highs in the upper 70s and low 80s respectively.

Slight rain chances develop Wednesday as a disturbance moves through but we'll monitor that for now.
