Meteorological fall arrives on Sunday, but you sure wouldn't know it by taking a look at the 7-day forecast.
The latest heatwave kicked in full force yesterday as temperatures peaked at 97 degrees here in Abilene.
An even greater push of warm air is expected on Friday with predicted highs near 100. Mostly sunny skies will be in charge from start to finish to end the work week. Keep the sunscreen handy if you are heading outdoors and also drink lots of water.
Saturday and Sunday also will produce very hot weather. We will be flirting with triple digit numbers on both days. Skies will be mostly sunny on both days with just a few passing clouds in the heat of the afternoon. Nighttime lows through this entire hot stretch will bottom out in the lower 70s.
We will watch the Labor Day forecast closely as some models are still trying to bring a weak cold front down into our area and touch off a few showers / thundershowers. Look for temperatures to back off a few degrees on Monday into the mid 90s.
At this point it does not look like there are any major pattern changes going into the middle of next week. Above normal warmth should stay with us for awhile.
