A Red Flag Warning is in effect for most of West Texas beginning mid-morning today and lasting through the early evening hours.
Officially, our counties under the warning are as follows: Haskell, Throckmorton, Fisher, Jones, Shackelford, Stephens, Nolan, Taylor, Callahan, Eastland, Sterling, Coke, Runnels, Coleman, Brown, Erath, Comanche, Mills, Tom Green, Concho, McCulloch.
Any type of outdoor burning today is strongly discouraged. With weather conditions such as we have, fires that start have the potential to grow rapidly.
Critical fire weather conditions are predicted to develop this afternoon. Dry vegetation already in place and breezy northwest winds at 20-30 mph, including higher gusts, combined with extremely low relative humidity values between 10 and 20 percent, brings us to the dangerous threshold.
